Sound for the Theatre. 4-2-3. Preq., SPTH 201 or consent of the instructor.
Practical and theoretical experience in sound reinforcement, design,
and equipment, and their uses in both commercial and noncommercial
stage. (G)
This course satisfies the University's
requirement for computer literacy. Students will learn the basic
aspects of sound design for the theatre by applying techniques in
sound creation and manipulation and analog/digital recording. Students
will also gain a basic understanding of new audio technologies useful
for creating sound designs for the theatre.
The
technology lab consists of six stations with the following equipment
and software:
Apple
Macintosh G4 computer with Monitor, Kurzweil K2VX Synthesizer,
Canon Canoscan
1220U Scanner, Epson 8
Cubed Color Printer, USB Hub, MOTU Fastlane
MIDI Interface, MOTU Digital Performer, Microsoft Office,
Adaptec Jam, Coda Finale,
Adobe Photoshop Elements
In
addition to this the front station also includes the following:
Sony Dual Cassette Deck, Sony PCM-R300 Digital
Audio Recorder, Alesis RA-100 Reference Amplifier, Mackie CR1604-VL
16 Channel Mixer, MOTU 828 Firewire
Audio Interface, One G4 Macintosh Computer (acting as the SPA Server),
1 Macintosh 12/640 Laser Printer, 2 Alesis Monitor One Audio Monitors,
1 TV Video Monitor
All stations are networked and accessible via a greater LAN network.
Internet access is available.
