During summer orientation, all Freshmen music pre-register
for fall classes with a School of the Performing Arts
representative.
Traditionally, students register for the following classes
in the first quarter:
MUAP 111 Class Piano
MUTH 100 Rudiments of Music Theory
MUPV 2XX Private Instruction (Flute, Clarinet, etc.)
MUEN 2XX Music Ensemble (generally marching band)
University Seminar
The Music Theory Placement Exam (generally offered during
fee payment before classes begin)
One or two general education classes.
For all remaining quarters, ALL students must pre-register
with Dr. Westbrook during the advising
period. Students may sign up for a time on their
advisor's door. Students should attend advising with
the following:
A registration form
A racing form
Pen/Pencil
A tentative schedule with courses selected or highlighted.
Most music courses follow a sequence, once passed the
student moves on to the next one in the sequence (i.e.,
MUTH 100, MUTH 101, then MUTH 102). Therefore, students
should be able to identify the next courses in their music
sequence.
Some students may need to take developmental coursework due
to their ACT/SAT scores. These courses must be taken before
OTHER general education coursework is attempted.
Students register for 200 level Applied Instruction (MUPV)
until they pass their Upper Division Examination (Double
Jury), then they register for 400 level Applied
Instruction.
Students register for 200 level Ensemble (MUEN) until they
have enough hours to register for 400 level Ensemble.
