2009-2010 Season

The Cypress String Quartet
Thursday, October 8, 2009

2009Cypress.jpgThe Cypress String Quartet

The Cypress String Quartet will be performing the elegant and very moving Quintet in A Major for Piano and Strings, Op. 81, by Antonín Dvorak, with Louisiana Tech's very own Dr. Daniel Immel joining the ensemble on the piano. The Cypress String Quartet represents the voice of the new generation of American culture. As comfortable playing Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven in recital halls as it is being the foundation of multi-media collaborations, the Quartet brings passion, inspiration and enjoyment to every audience. The Cypress have shown an unfailing dedication to exploring the masterworks of the time-honored, classic chamber music repertoire with its unique and refreshingly open sound.

The Hot 8 Brass Band tours the cool sounds of New Orleans jazz. Get a little taste of the Big Easy as the trumpet blares and the drums rock out that southern sound. A Hot 8 Brass Band concert features traditional songs like "Down by the Riverside" and "Saint James Infirmary" mixed with original works and high energy. Hands will clap, feet will tap and dancing will ensue when the Hot 8 Brass Band comes to town.

The Chamber Orchestra Kremlin
Monday, February 8, 2010

2009Kremlin.jpgThe Chamber Orchestra Kremlin

Louisiana Tech is delighted to bring the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin back to Ruston for a third time. The Orchestra can always be counted on to provide superior music by its highly professional ensemble. This relatively young orchestra has time and again been critically acclaimed as one of the finest string ensembles in Russia today, which is to suggest that it is arguably one of the best in the world. Louisiana Tech's own, Dr. Cain Budds, guitarist, will be joining the orchestra to perform Gran Quintetto: Variations on "Nel cor piu non mi sento" and Polonaise, for guitar & string quartet, Op. 65 by Mauro Giuliani (1781-1829).

Romeo and Juliet
Monday, April 6, 2010

Romeo and Juliet2009Romeo.jpg

The Guthrie Theater joins The Acting Company's 37th national tour with a co-production of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, the Bard's iconic romantic tragedy of innocent young lovers falling victim to family hatred and cruel destiny... swords clash, everlasting love is promised and a treacherous sleeping potion is swallowed in the greatest love story of all time. Young love has never been so delightful or as dangerous as in this stirring new production. As directed by James Kerr of London's National Theatre, Romeo and Juliet exquisitely embodies the brief joy of youthful passion and ecstasy. Timeless and deeply moving, they love each other passionately as only teenagers can while their families' mutual disdain and prejudice lead to revenge and an irreversible fate.
